I think of the times such as now, that I appreciate the purple-pink blooms of the orchid, standing like a banner in their clay pot. How often does my line of vision waver and I am surprised to realize their soil is rock hard?
Where else in my life does this show up? Items asking for attention and met with a cursory glance. Beautiful flowers in my direct line of sight allowed to die on the vine. Water is within reach, yet we all know they must totally rely on me.
Is this the same as your dreams? Your belief system? The way you treat your loved ones and most importantly how you treat yourself? There have certainly been times when I haven't noticed that the leaves are wilting and starting to fade. My ideas not given a chance to grow and blossom. Not paying attention to someone needing a hug or kind words. Thinking that I am being limited by external circumstances beyond my control when really I just have to reach for the water and pour.
We are surrounded by beautiful images and flooded by so many colorful hues that sometimes we stop focusing on the magnificence of the rainbow. What do we notice then instead? The dark clouds on the horizon? When we stop looking and paying attention it's easy to let the dirt get dry.
Invite a plant to live at your kitchen sink and vow to pay attention. Recognize the choices you have by showing gratitude and appreciation when working and completing the tasks of human living. Even when doing it alone. Stand in awe of your dreams and nurture them with a plan of action. Tend to your loved ones the same way you would envision a farmer caring for their crop, with love and persistence.
